Concrete dyes are a color solution made up of very fine pigments that penetrate into the pours of the concrete surface.
Unlike acid stains, dyes do not chemically react with the concrete to form color. The color comes from the pigments themselves. This allows for a wide range of color possibilities.
Most dyes come in concentrated form and are diluted with water, solvents, or alcohols. This gives the artisan more flexibility and color control. Dyes can be used full strength to attain greater depth of color or diluted to produce paler shades or a light wash of color.
Dyes are a great compliment to traditional acid stains since they can be used to highlight or accent an acid stain job. They can highlight an area that did not stain well or be used as a secondary color producing a layering effect.
