Micro-toppings or skim coats, as they are often called, are polymer modified overlay materials that are applied ultra thin in usually two or more coats.

Each coat is applied with a magic trowel or steel trowel usually over a base coat which is a little thicker and provides a good bond for the skim coat.

When skim coats are applied in different colors a layering effect is achieved giving a very mottled and unique look. The final finish can be hard steel trowled to leave a burnished finish.

The floor is machine-sanded to further smooth the surface and remove any trowel marks.
