Since acid stains are a translucent material and react with the lime in the concrete to create color, imperfections on the floor will not stain well or not stain at all. This will show up in your finished product.
Damaged areas from tack strips or areas that are patched will be hard to match. Old paint, varnish marks from cabinet stain, or oil drips from new construction will effect the look of the stained floor.
Floors that once had tile or linoleum are almost impossible to stain with any success.
All these factors should be considered prior to staining a floor not originally designed to be stained.
A solution to all these problems is an overlay or micro-topping which would give your floor a fresh coat of concrete to stain.
